The Eyes
According to Leonardo da Vinci, the eyes are the mirror to the soul. Their great power as a means of communication is shown in the number of expression we have that refer to the eyes.
Must know:
Eye facts
-In normal contact, you hold your gaze for between two to six seconds at one time
-Anger cause the eyes to narrow
-Fear makes the eyes still, so they appear to be frozen
-Excitement cause fast eye scanning
Cultural differences:
Direct eye gazing is considered rude in many cultures; in others it carries a sexual meaning. If you are travelling or are on business in another country, remember that the reason someone avoids catching your eye may be because it is considered offensive to look directly at you.
Here are some cultural differences:
-Many Asians, especially the Japanese, find too much direct eye contact to be intimidating.
-The same is true about Puerto Ricans and Native Americans. Too much eye contact may be seen as a sexual invitation
-Raising an eyebrow in the Philippines is a greeting
-In Thailand, eye contact is very important in social interaction
-Muslim women in many cultures will avoid direct eye contact with men
